  1. 1.Some causes include being evicted for falling behind on rent, the factory in which you work shuts down, drugs, and alcohol.

2.The effects homelessness has on kids are they never finish high school and never have a job. They go from one strange bed to another and they walk in the morning to try to figure out where you land that day.

    3.Reasons/Results

4.I love this essay. I like the conclusion the most. I think she wrote the essay really well. It offers a solution in the next to last paragraph. It says something about providing job training and education.

  2. 1. Some of the probable causes are: Drugs, alcohol, domestic abuse, benifits termited or reduced, evicted for not paying the rent, and source of income is gone(Factory in which you work shut down)
2.Effects of homelessness on kids as per the essay-
lack in sense of security and happiness, life is nomadic for them (hard to identify with one place),low chances of finishing high school and getting jobs, for them comfort is for a limited group of people(mostly for rich)
3.Reason/Result and to an extent problem/solution.
    4. I liked the essay. The way the reasons(problem) and results(solutions) are discussed in this essay is really good. The solutions appear practical, as they advocate providing some technical skills along with the shelters (solutions in second to last paragraph) . The conclusion is really the highlight of this essay.

  3. 1. Benefits from welfare were terminated, expensive housing, drug abuse, domestic abuse, and low min wage
2.don't finish high school, can't hold a job, repeat grades, they go hungry, more likely to be hospitalized
    3.Reasons and results
4.I thought the essay was informative, but there is nothing i can do. I think it would have been more effective if the author called the readers to action at the end. I want to know what i can do to help. It seemed like the author didn't think that the solution was going to make a difference.

  5. 1.) It states that housing is more than twice as much as minimum wage. Many of the parents were drug attics, and the parents have several kids and not enough money to support them all on their own. Some domestic abuse had become an issue. Benefits were terminated or reduced.

2.) Kids end up living on streets or in shelters where many families share a room and a bathroom. Homeless children are twice as likely to be hospitalized or repeat a grade and four times as likely to go hungry than that of a child with a home. Many do not graduate high school and can not hold a job, some become a product of domestic abuse. In processing, children end up sleeping on benches surrounded by bags or in dirty hotels. If the children do not become homeless they go into foster care.

3.) I think she does a more of a today and tomorrow approach because she metions what will happen to the kids and how it is getting worse in America. I do not think of it much being a problem and solution because I never see a clear solution. How can we help the children?

4.) I like this essay quite a bit, because it illustrates a picture of what some homeless kids go through and what goes through the parent's mind. It is an informative piece but it does not really offer a solution, it mostly informs the readers of what is going on within our nation that most do not see.

  6. 1. They can't find work so therefore can't have enough money to support thier family or have a home of thier own. The benefits are not what they use to be and it is harder for them to find a home when they are on welfare. they come from broken home or are drug addicts which does not help thier situation.

    2. The homeless children have to suffer a great deal of emotional stress for being mad fun of at scholl because they are not as well off as some other kids. No wonder they are more likely to not finish school why would anyone want to be somewhere that is not a comforting enviroment.

    3. Reasons/Results

    4. I think she definatly does i good job showing what the problem is but does not really give a clear solution. It is more of just letting people know what is going on in the world so they way maybe they can help in thier own way.

  7. 1. Some of the causes of homelessness pointed out in the essay were jobs not paying enough for people to be able to afford their house payments or rent, drugs, alcohol, domestic abuse, and benifits being terminated or reduced.

    2. Some of the effects homelessness has on children pointed out in the essay are going from foster home to foster home, sleeping in shelters, cramped homes, in city offices or even on benches.

    3. I think she combines Problem/Resolution by stating a problem but I didnt really find a resolution, and Reason/Result. She stated a few reasons of homelessness but really hits home with the results.

    4. I think she outlined the problem very clearly but I dont think she offers a clear cut or reasonable solution. Overall, it was a good essay.

  8. Quindlen points out that a gap between the middle class and the poveresh levels is wideneing. She also states that the cost of living is more than most people make anually.

Quindlen reports that children that are faced with homelessness are often moved from group home to group home and receive very little nourishment. Some are denied the basic necessity of a roof over their head.

    She uses a problem/solution and reasons/results method.

Quindlen doesn't really offer solutions to the increasing poverty levels. She mainly complains about the governments lack of assistance to the poor. I don't believe the government should increase the welfare restrictions. There is too much for people to take advantage of with our current welfare system. Her essay does effectively outline a problem but it is more of an observation than a solution.

  9. 1. Some causes of homelessness are:
    -Drug and alcohol abuse
    -Unemployment
    -Unaffordable housing
    -Low minimum wage
    -Welfare reform
    -Domestic abuse
    2. Some effects on homeless children are:
-Twice as likely to repeat a grade
-Twice as likely to be hospitalized
-Four times as likely to go hungry
-More likely to be homeless adults
    3. The essay is mostly written in a reason/result approach. There is a problem and solution mentioned, but it is not the main point of the essay.
    4. Her essay was definately an eye opener. I like it, and I think that it definately outlines a clear problem. A solution is touched on, but it is not clearly stated. She uses quotes to make the solution seem more pratical. She didn't talk about anything that the readers could do to help solve the problem. Overall, I think that it was an effective essay.
